Alex Rider, MD

Dr. Alex Rider is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. His surgical practice includes cataract procedures, corneal disease treatment, vision correction, advanced intraocular lenses for astigmatism and presbyopia, corneal transplantation procedures such as DSEK and DMEK, and ocular surface reconstruction. Dr. Rider earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from Union University and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He completed ophthalmology residency training at the University of Louisville and fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at the Storm Eye Institute in Charleston, South Carolina. He helps patients understand how cataracts affect vision and reviews surgical options with attention to visual goals, ocular health, and daily activities. When surgery is appropriate, treatment planning is tailored to the patient’s eye health, refractive needs, and expectations for vision after the procedure. He works closely with referring eye care providers to support continuity from initial evaluation through surgery and postoperative management.
