JD Bonner, MD
Before joining SouthEast Eye Specialists in 2019, Dr. J.D. Bonner spent more than two decades in private ophthalmology practice. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Alabama and completed a four-year ophthalmology residency through the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. Dr. Bonner practices comprehensive ophthalmology, with significant emphasis on glaucoma and ocular surface disease management. He is affiliated with the American Medical Association, Christian Ophthalmology Society, and American Academy of Ophthalmology and previously served as a Clinical Instructor with the University of Tennessee Chattanooga Department of Ophthalmology. Outside of practice, he enjoys hiking and water sports and has traveled to Uganda to provide ophthalmic education and surgical eye care. Management may include medications, laser treatment, minimally invasive procedures, or more traditional glaucoma surgery depending on disease severity and response. He works with patients to balance effective pressure control with an individualized plan that reflects the stage of glaucoma and overall ocular health.
