John L. Stone, MD

Dr. John Stone is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist with more than 35 years of experience in retinal care. He specializes in medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the retina and vitreous, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and uveitis. His treatment approach includes injection therapy for retinal disease and individualized long-term management designed to preserve vision. Dr. Stone earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed ophthalmology and fellowship training before beginning his career in retina. He has also contributed to the field through published research and regional presentations on ocular disease and treatment. He works with patients whose retinal conditions may require observation, office-based treatment, surgery, or a combination of approaches over time. This specialty requires close attention to changes in the macula, retina, and vitreous so treatment can be adapted as a patient’s condition evolves. His approach is centered on preserving useful vision while helping patients understand the diagnosis, available treatment options, and recommended follow-up.
