Sonya Smoak, OD, FAAO

Dr. Sonya Smoak is a consultative optometrist and Center Director with a clinical focus on ocular disease and coordinated perioperative care. She manages glaucoma and anterior segment conditions and works closely with ophthalmologists and surgical teams to support patients before and after surgery. Dr. Smoak earned her Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry and has more than 20 years of clinical experience. Her training and leadership were recognized with honors including the Georgia Optometric Association’s Presidential Citation for Student Leadership and membership in the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, board-certified through the American Board of Optometry, and a member of the American Optometric Association and Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians. Her clinical focus reflects the importance of matching modern surgical technology with careful patient selection and individualized treatment planning. Her glaucoma care emphasizes early detection, careful monitoring of optic nerve health, and treatment designed to reduce the risk of progressive vision loss.
